It was during a fifth-grade field trip, that Sharon Ellis (born 1955) encountered a painting by Charles Burchfield that made her understand that painting is not bound to represent physical reality. It was this moment that set her on a path to become a luminary of landscape painting herself.
Her vibrant nature scenes convey a sense of the divine in nature and are reminiscent of the Transcendental Painting Group with members like Agnes Pelton who remained an inspiration over the years.
Ellis is represented by Kohn Gallery
I feel that my work follows in the tradition of love for the natural world, obsession with the painted universes we create, and a reverence for the mystery of imagination itself.Sharon Ellis
