I don’t feel it necessary to search for words that could describe the images of María Medem. Especially since the absence of speech is a characteristic feature in her dreamlike worlds.
‘A perfect summer night and the mental state of being truly present to the current moment in time.’ That’s how the artist describes her book Satori. And I feel this captures perfectly the atmosphere radiating from her images. Through the simplification of form and bold colors, Medem’s language communicates with immediacy a feeling of serenity. To me it’s like color therapy, a meditation on movement and space.
