Lachlan Turczan
Synesthetic Resonance

March 15 2025

Lachlan Turczan (b. 1993) is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work explores the interplay between natural phenomena and human perception.

Through immersive installations—both in galleries and outdoor spaces—he weaves together light and sound, using water as a dynamic, tactile interface. By sculpting light through vibration, Turczan creates synesthetic experiences that blur the lines between sculpture and performance.

His earlier works centered on cymatic phenomena, using vibrating water pools as liquid lenses to reflect and refract light into organic, ever-shifting displays. More recently, Turczan’s installations have aligned more closely with the tradition of the Light and Space movement, whose most renowned figure, James Turrell, has been featured on DOP before.
