Ancient Trees

January 4 2015

I love to look at trees. And their nakedness in wintertime only reveals more of the inherent beauty and wisdom. This wisdom of biology is all around us but the trees unveil it in such an accessible way. Take the time to contemplate on a tree and it will teach you many things.

I’ve been collecting pictures of old trees for a while now when I came across Beth Moon and her book Ancient Trees: Portraits Of Time. She has been photographing some of the largest, rarest, and oldest trees on Earth for the past fourteen years.

Standing as the earth’s largest and oldest living monuments, I believe these symbolic trees will take on a greater significance, especially at a time when our focus is directed at finding better ways to live with the environment, celebrating the wonders of nature that have survived throughout the centuries.
