Franciszek Andrzej Bobola Biberstein-Starowieyski (1930-2009), was a Polish artist, specialized in poster design, book illustration, stage design and calligraphy. And as he liked to point out, a draftsman from the 17th century. To emphasize this preference for the Baroque, he signed his works with a date from 300 years back. He liked to work in front of assembled spectators, drawing large-format female nudes at lightning speed. He called these spectacles ‘Theater of Drawing’.
Starowieyski’s lushness of form and erotic exuberance reminds me of Hans Bellmer.
