Anna Halprin
Breath Made Visible

A follower of DOP pointed me to a documentary and it indeed belongs here: Breath Made Visible, a film about the life of Anna Halprin, an early pioneer in the expressive arts healing movement.

I really love her approach to dance. Dance is not something you do for an audience to entertain, it’s a very real experience. It can heal you. “Before I had cancer, I lived my life in service of dance, and after I had cancer, I danced in the service of life.”

Seeing a dance performance never worked for me. I always felt it’s such a participatory thing that works for the dancers rather than the viewers.

Just as the ancients danced to call upon the spirits in nature, we too, can dance to find the spirits within ourselves that have long been buried and forgotten.
