The Day May Break is an ongoing global series by photographer Nick Brandt, in which he portrays people and animals that have been impacted by environmental destruction and climate breakdown.
The creatures sharing the frame are connected by a common fate, equally helpless and without a voice in the face of a disappearing world. Connected from time immemorial, yet forever estranged, they are caught in the fog of war against our own existence.
I have never seen this terrestrial condition of inseparable entanglement and otherness so clearly expressed, and it touches me to the core. The Earth is not ours to command; we have to protect the web of life for those yet to join it.
