Irene Hardwicke Olivieri
Rewilding the Heart

June 18 2022

Irene Hardwicke Olivieri (born 1959) grew up in Texas, lived in Brazil and Mexico and her art clearly carries the influences of these cultures. Her paintings speak to us with such a refreshing immediacy, reminding us how wild it is to be alive.

The exuberant multiplicity of creatures and plot lines is like an antidote to our species’ severed connection to the web of life, which sees diversity merely as an obstacle to limitless economic growth.

Painting for me is a natural reaction to being alive. I’m astonished by everything. Like many of us, my life is in a constant state of construction. My desire is to make paintings that rewild our hearts and our connection with the natural world.Irene Hardwicke Olivieri
