Caio Reisewitz
The Changing Brazilian Landscape

November 15 2016

As I’m preparing for my first expedition to Brazil, I want to share with you the work of Caio Reisewitz in order to get attuned. His last name is of German origin and means journey wit and I take that as a happy omen.

Reisewitz’ photographs, most of all large formats, explore the changing relation of the city and the countryside in a period of feverish economic development. He offers a sustained reflection on the struggle between primeval nature and the voracious human appetite to exploit it that has marked Brazil’s history since colonial times.

The first time I became aware of the odd light of Brazil was through the photography of Anna Paola Guerra. Make sure to check her post.
