Ray Collins
The irresistible force

September 9 2015

Capturing the fleeting moments of a wave’s journey to dissipation, Australian photographer Ray Collins feels more at home floating in saltwater with his camera than anywhere on land. Freezing the ephemeral relationship between water and light is what drives and inspires him to clamber out of bed in the dark each morning to celebrate the sun rising over the sea.

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash.

Be water, my friend.
